Abby Taylor to become RoRI Associate Director

We’re thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr Abby Taylor as Associate Director of the Research on Research Institute (RoRI).

Abby is the Head of the Wellcome Trust’s Strategy and Data Insights team, supporting Wellcome to understand whether it’s achieving the long-term impact that it wants to as an organisation, bringing together insight from its current activities and the world outside to help its leaders set its priorities. The team sets Wellcome’s data strategy and works with teams across Wellcome to bring data into strategic decisions.

Holder of a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Abby’s career to date has involved setting up the bike hire scheme in London, working in a clinical research unit in southeast Asia, leading a government review into the UK venture capital market, a spell as Wellcome’s Deputy Chief of Staff and leading set up of Wellcome’s Berlin office. She now heads up strategy development and planning, with the delivery of the occasional strategic program thrown in.

Abby said, “The RoRI consortium has allowed people to work together on shared problems in a way that simply hasn’t been tried before. Together, partners have developed some really interesting research projects and crucial supporting infrastructure and the next year will be an exciting period as findings emerge.”

Abby succeeds Danil Mikhailov who is departing RoRI to take up an exciting new position as Executive Director of Data.org, a New York-based non-profit backed by Rockefeller Foundation and Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth focussed on funding, creating and scaling data science and technology projects for social impact.

Danil says, “I am hugely proud of what we have all achieved together already as part of the RoRI consortium – bringing such a great selection of institutions together around a common goal is no mean feat. I am excited to see what comes out of RoRI’s first two year phase and even more excited by opportunities offered thereafter to continue this important endeavour. In my new role as ED at Data.org I will continue to be a friend and champion of RoRI from the outside and look forward to exploring potential opportunities for future collaboration.” Everyone at RoRI thanks Danil for all he did as Associate Director and wishes him luck with his new venture.
