Help Shape the Metascience Alliance

Set to launch at the Metascience 2025 Conference, this new cross-sector network is fostering collaboration to better understand and improve the research system

Interest in the field of metascience is growing but coordination is hampered as metascience activity is distributed across a range of disciplinary, sector, and geographic silos – a new approach is needed.

The Metascience Alliance is proposed as a globally distributed collaborative network that will foster weak ties across these groups, find coincidences of wants, and enable light-touch coordination to address the broad aims of community building, workforce development and matchmaking.

Representatives from 14 metascience organisations met on 5th – 7th November 2024 for an initial visioning meeting for the Metascience Alliance. During this 2.5 day meeting, attendees explored the potential for a Metascience Alliance, including what form it could take, what goals it could have, and what activities it could facilitate.

The initial visioning meeting marked the first step in the co-development process. Input is now being sought from the diverse community interested in metascience, including metascience laboratories and researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, R&D-intensive companies, private research labs, publishers, infrastructure and service providers, funders, and others engaged in the field.
